What is iron concentrate?
The concentrate is supplied as a commercial product and is used as a semi-finished product to make blast furnace pellets and pellets for metallization and can also be used to make iron-containing briquettes. The development of technologies for injecting iron ore concentrate into furnaces by means of tuyers (in combination with pulverized coal or independently) is considered one of the promising areas for blast furnace production that could significantly replace sintered IORMs. Iron ore concentrate is produced from magnetite iron ore in the enrichment process and is used in pellet production for blast furnaces and sinter.
Concentrates are non-toxic, non-flammable and non-explosive. The concentrate is shipped as bulk goods by rail and by sea using open-top wagons. Iron ore pellets – A material produced from fine (powdered) ore and finely milled concentrates by pelleting and solidification or hardening by a non-fired method. Blast furnace pellets containing at least 62% Fe are used in blast furnaces to make hot metal. Metallizing pellets made from a cured concentrate contain at least 66% Fe and are mainly used to produce direct reducing iron (DRI, HBI).
Iron ore pellets are produced from iron ore concentrate by pelleting and sintering and are used as raw materials for the blast furnace process. In the iron and steel industry, iron ore sinter is used as the primary iron ore feedstock for ironmaking in blast furnaces. The sintered product mix contains YuGOK products such as non-melted sinter 62% Fe and melted sinter 50-57% Fe. Sinter is non-toxic, non-flammable and non-explosive.
